HOT CEREAL made from scratch...

Hello again,

In our previous post, we spoke about how one can grind their own grain in a simple Coffee Grinder...Now here is an easy recipe for cream-of-wheat, cream-of-oats, or even corn meal mush.
First, GRIND the grain of choice in your Coffee Grinder until it looks semi-fine....usually takes less than a minute.  Put one cup of ground grain to four cups of regular tap water in a pot big enough to hold it.  Then cook on medium/low heat until it has the consistency of thick oatmeal. Please make sure that you keep it stirred from the bottom...a little cooking spray around the inside of the pot before filling, is probably a good idea to keep it from sticking.  If it does not start to thicken up after a few minutes of hard boiling, then a small amount of extra ground grain needs to be added.  Then, one can use this thickened porridge just like it is with a little sugar and milk for breakfast...just like you would do for store-bought Cream of Wheat.  If you want to eat fried cornmeal mush, simply ladle out the thick mixture on to a skillet that has been greased with olive oil....fry until brown like you normally would.  Or,  if you would like battered chicken or fish, dip your chicken or fish in this cooked grain mixture before baking in the oven...you can add any seasonings you like, as you desire.  However, as you probably already know, you have to throw away of any extra batter that has had raw chicken or fish in it...unless you decide to boil it up again with more water added, and make it into a vegetable soup base.

These are many easy things that you can do with ground grain from a simple coffee grinder...

I welcome your comments and questions,

Shalom
